Scope Changes And The Business Analyst Skill Set

A panorama shot from a hike on Little Mount Si in Washington state.

To the business analyst, scope is a sensitive ecosystem. Just because we "could" introduce something into the mix to address one particular issue, we endeavor to find what the impact could be beyond that one issue. Most project stakeholders, including project managers by the way, tend to focus more about the impact a scope change has on their particular slice of the world. Navigating scope related waters is a much valued skill set for business analysts, a skill that is never truly mastered but refined over time.
