FileMaker 9 introduced a new alert feature when updates to FileMaker are available. Some users are reporting that they know that an update to FileMaker was released but they didn’t get the notice.
In most cases, there isn’t any reason for concern. This feature may not fire up a notice to you for a few days after the update was released. There are a number of operational reasons for this but most probably have to do with the notification from the FileMaker update servers.
In most cases, waiting a day or two to update your version of FileMaker is probably a good thing. I know of some developers that will always wait a week or two before installing new updates (not just for FileMaker but all their application or OS updates). Waiting a little while to update your system also benefits the application vendor, because it gives their download server more time to spread out the downloads.
