A READER ASKS
I have just looked at your article http://fmpscripting.blogspot.com/2008/01/filemaker-insert-picture-script-step.html

I remember reading some time ago that there was a way of inserting a pic / reference into a container filed based on text fields (for name and path) in FMP. I cannot remember or find how to do that. Can you help?

I don’t know of a method to do an auto import of container data based upon a data edit without using a third party product or some sort of routine that looks like a Wallace & Gromit invention.

Importing container data is something that has to be done manually or scripted. You can have a calculation field that will show the data from one or more related container fields. Of course, the data or a reference to it has to already be in the system. You can do a number of amazing things with the web viewer if you are comfortable with web coding. I haven’t explored these options myself but I’m sure there is some content out there if you do an internet search for web viewer actions. You can use third party plug-in products to execute scripts on field data edits. You can even find third party plug-in products that extend what the web viewer can do. I heard raves about a product called Reactor by fusionplugins.com but I haven’t been able to carve out the time to investigate them myself.
