I’ve selected to have Drop-down menu for a field and my FileMaker users can bypass the value list and type in their own value. The value list is designed to populate from the values that are are entered into the field. This works fine for my FileMaker users but ... this doesn’t seem to work for my Instant Web Publishing users and they must select from the existing options in the value list.

I hadn’t run into this before and after doing a little research, I found out that Instant Web Publishing (IWP) users cannot edit value list data. They can only click into the field to make a choice.

I have done a work around for this that seems to work just fine. I made the screen a little larger and added a blue hypertext button next to it called Add New Value. Clicking this will take the web user to a new page that allows them to type directly into the same field (but it does not have the value list attached to it. The user then can click a submit button on that layout. After that is done, it takes the user back to the same layout, the field shows the value and the value now will show up in the value list.
