One of the new features in FileMaker 11 is the ability to filter portals. This is a nice feature and many developers are employing it as needs warrant. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you will no longer need the ability to filter an entire relationship for all your database operation needs.

In this example, we are filtering what we see in the portal. Click to view either boys or girls and the portal changes to match your choice! The View List By field is our parent key field and changing it’s value is filtering our results. You can also click the go to button in the portal to view the particular record.

Here is a peek at the relationship the example uses.
