This is a very simple example of a multiple find with an omit option. Lets say that you want to find records about students grades 3 to 5, but you want to omit the students from an specific school.
2) Create new second find request ( we provided a button to make it easier for you ) and select the name of the school you wish to omit.
NOTE: Many folks are not aware that you can have multiple FIND requests. In FIND mode, you can enter in some FIND criteria, then create another FIND screen using the New Record/Request menu option. Then you can enter in more FIND related information including an OMIT selection.
3) Click the Omit checkbox in the status area (FileMaker 10 and earlier) or click the Omit button in the status bar area (FileMaker 11 and later). There isn’t a way for use to script this action they way we are walking you through this and I wanted you to click the omit box for demonstration purposes. You can save an omit operation in a script, in fact, there are multiple options for that.
When you enter find mode, you may have noticed the Omit option available to you. Normally, you would enter into find mode, type in Bob, execute the search and the Bob matching records will be in the found set. Now if you would enter into find mode, type in Bob, click the Omit option, execute the search and the Bob matching records will be omitted and all the other records are in the found set.
4) Perform the find by hitting the enter key on your keyboard, the Find button in the status area or the button we provided.
This search finds all records with the grades you specified then omitted any record with the school name you specified on the second find request.
We added a show omitted button so that you can toggle the views of the found set of records.
