Do you know of a way to add the current date, as a shortcut, only using the full date, not just the numbers?

I haven't tried this but assume it will work, have you tried remapping the associated menu command using the FileMaker Advanced custom menu feature?

The symbol of // (often called a double slash) in FileMaker can be used as a form of shorthand for the current date and can be used in searches and as a layout object. So a search in a date field with // will find records with the matching current date. Adding the text of // as a layout object in layout mode will convert that text to the current date when you go into browse mode.

Additionally, there is a command to insert the current date into a field from under the insert menu. In FileMaker Advanced, you can create your own custom menus and assign them keyboard shortcuts. In many cases, you can assign keyboard shortcuts for menu commands that are already present, thereby hijacking the traditional use of that menu command for a customized scripted action.
