A READER ASKS
As my time is limited, I have contracted a local fellow to work with me on our database, but I am thinking he may need a little help, seeing as my stuff is very typical.
If you recall, in our last Virtual One On One session you and I had was spent review my check-box queries, and we discussed how to combine them in and/or combinations using ‘constrain found set’ and ‘extend found set’.
He seems to be have some troubles with this, and I was thinking maybe you could put him on track.
By all means, we can schedule a virtual one on one for today. The main trick is to understand that an AND constraint means you are narrowing your search results and this is akin to a constrain search. You are taking a found set of records and refining them down to a shorter list. Your search is done within a found set of records and makes it smaller.
The OR constraint means you are widening your search results and this is akin to an extended search. You are taking a found set of records and widening them to a broader list. Your search is done outside a found set of records and adding them to your overall results.
