This was one of my favorite features introduced with FileMaker 6. Not because of its immense power and flexibility but simply because it came along at a key time when I needed it.
Simply put, you can import a folder full of files in one shot. Before this feature came along, you would have to manually select each file you wanted to import one file at a time. The import folder of data feature works specifically for folders containing text files or a collection of images.
Text files do need to the the .txt extension in order to successfully import. You can match the data in the text files to a single field in your destination file. You will then need to parse the data from the one field to the other fields you want to populate. This sounds like a drag but still can be scripted and become a very big time saver.
