Out of the 3 possible views in browse mode (form, list & table), table view is the one that most resembles a spreadsheet application. FileMaker even implemented a cool sorting feature for table mode.

In table view, all included records are shown horizontally and all the fields vertically (just like a spreadsheet). Across the top of the table view, you see the labels for the fields included. You can sort a row of fields by power clicking the label (right click in the windows world - control click the the macintosh world). This will bring up a new menu that allows you to sort that row ascending, descending or via an order in a defined value list.

Here you can see the contextual menu that comes up with the control click of a column header in table view.
