Printing FileMaker Scripts

You can print scripts from the Script Overview dialog box. This can be very helpful in troubleshooting or documenting your more complicated scripts. You can highlight one script to print or multiple scripts.

Here you can see how to print a collection of scripts. In this case, all the scripts associated with my clients module.

The ability to print a family of scripts leads me to a script documentation and troubleshooting technique I stumbled upon a couple years ago. I’m a Macintosh computer user and one of the benefits I enjoy is printing directly to pdf. So I can print my scripts to a pdf file for legacy documentation. It also allows me to use Spotlight to find script steps and go right to them.

Here you can see the pdf result of printing my grouped selection of client related scripts and you can see that I’ve done a search for Go To Layout script step and it’s associated results. In a troubleshooting technique, I could search for Go To Layout [unknown], which is a problem when you delete a layout that you previously wrote a script step to go to.
