The Set Use System Formats Script Step allows the designer to specify to use date, time or number formats defined in the system software or by the current FileMaker file in use. When the setting is turned OFF, the format for date, time and number fields are set to the original settings when the FileMaker file was created or last edited. In the ON position, the file will use the formats as defined by the operating system.

The first time I came across this, I was working on a FileMaker database created by an Ireland developer but was being used by users within the United States. My currency and data/time formats always seem to default to a setting for Irish users, which was the default settings stored when the files were first created.

Here you can see the file options setting about system settings.
